Description[]
The UV-05a "Argonaut" is an open-top LUV with passive Map Intelligence gathering capability.
Crew[]
It has four seats: 1 driver and 3 passenger. The passengers can use their secondary slot (Secondary Weapons, Binoculars), giving the crew a great awareness of their surrounding. However, because the vehicle is open-top the whole crew is vulnerable to incoming fire from every direction but the front.
The firing arcs of the passengers are limited due to the dimensions of the vehicle:
- The codriver cannot shoot directly forward, as it will hit the windscreen of the vehicle, damaging it.
- The rear passengers can fire up to 45 degrees backwards to either side (for a total of 270 degree fire angle). However, shooting forward might result in hitting the vehicle or the passenger in front of you.
- All passengers can hit the driver.
Inventory[]
It has 7 inventory slots which accepts any item and where small caliber ammo stacks.
Armament[]
The vehicle has no armament except whatever secondary weapon the passengers are wielding, making the vehicle relatively vulnerable.
Health & Armor[]
The Argonaut is the LUV with the least health. It has the same health as a truck and is unarmored. Its low disable point (40%) allows it to soak a bit of small arms and shrapnel but far less than even an Armored Car. Heavy calibers, anti-tank Launchers and heavy explosives are a death sentence.
Like other LUVs, repairing the vehicle costs a lot of Basic Materials (135 to repair 100%), more than for a Truck or Armored Car.
Engine & Size[]
LUVs are the fastest off-road vehicle class and the Argonaut is the fastest LUV, making it the fastest off-road vehicle in the game. It is fast on road and can outrun off-road any other vehicle. Combined with its low fuel consumption, the vehicle has a massive autonomy and range of action. It is highly maneuverable and agile.
The LUV can be packaged, forming a small Shippable that can be transported by Crane, Flatbed Truck, Freighter, or Barge. However due to its speed there's little reason to transport it that way.
It doesn't trigger anti-tank mines and can safely cross Field Bridges without damaging them too much. It is too small to cross Trenches. It can run over Sandbags and tier 1 walls but can't run over Barbed Wire Fences.
Tactics[]
Its fast off-road speed and turn rate combined with its relative resistance to small arms allows the Argonaut to simply run over enemy infantry encountered on open fields.
Its 4-seat capacity enables quick infantry hit-and-runs on armored vehicles. The passengers can be equipped with heavy equipment (Sticky Bombs, Anti-Tank RPGs) and simply dropped off right next to their target by the Argonaut.
