You play as a nameless soldier fighting in the Foxhole Universe.

Joining a Faction[ | ]

At the beginning of each war (or whenever you first log in during a war), you can play and commit be a part of one of two factions: the Colonials or the Wardens. When you commit to a faction, you are then bound to that faction for the duration of that war (which usually lasts 3 or 4 weeks on average). When you commit to a faction, there is a six minute grace period where you can switch sides. Once it ends, you are committed to that faction and cannot switch sides. If there are multiple Shards available it is possible to join a faction on one shard and the opposite faction on another.

Joining the War[ | ]

When entering the game world, players will spawn at their faction's Home Region, near the Deployment area where players can deploy to the war. After deploying the player can assign their spawn point to be at any friendly base.

New spawns receive the default loadout of: Hammer, unloaded Pistol, two 8mm magazines, and the default Soldier Uniform. Players always have a 3 second invincibility timer after spawning at any base.

Equipment slots[ | ]

Player inventory

Player inventory with each equipment slot numbered

Equipment slots are where you can equip various Weapons, Tools and other items. Left Clicking any item in your inventory to equip it, the item will automatically get equipped into its proper slot. Left click an equipped item to unequip it, it will go into your inventory (Large Items automatically drop to the ground instead)

  1. Primary Equipment: Weapons, Wrench, Hammer, Sledge Hammer, Water Bucket, and Trauma Kit.
  2. Secondary Equipment: Pistol, Revolver and Binoculars.
  3. Tertiary Equipment: Satchel Charge, Landmine, First Aid Kit, Bandages, Fuel cans, and all Grenades.
  4. Radio, Radio Backpack, or Flamethrower Ammo.
  5. Gas Mask.
  6. Uniform.
  7. Weapon attachments: rifle Bayonet, and the Warden's Grenade Launcher attachment.
  8. Large Items: Critically Wounded Soldiers, 300mm shells, Tripods, etc...

Backpack[ | ]

The Backpack contains all unequipped items that the player is carrying. The more items a player is carrying the slower they walk. If too many heavy items are carried, the player becomes encumbered and moves at a very slow speed. If there's not enough space, then actions like mining Salvage or picking up factory order won't be available until more space is freed up.

Once a soldier has fallen on the battlefield, his gear and inventory will be visible on the ground in the form of a Soldier's Backpack. These are different for each Faction. Backpacks are also lootable by other players, who happen to come by this temporary container. The Backpack does not stay there indefinitely, it despawns after 30s if empty or contains only starter kit items (hammer, pistol, 8mm) otherwise it despawns after 10min if no player is next to it.

Keep in mind what you carry is always lootable by the enemy team if you die. Do not carry tons of valuable items on you!

Character Context Menu[ | ]

The Character Context Menu is a menu that can be used to create and invite players to squads, to commend, whisper, kick, mute, and text other players. A player can access the Character Context Menu by holding Alt and left-clicking on another player. The menu can also be accessed by right clicking a player's name in the chat or in the Players menu (F1).
