“ | A multipurpose off-road vehicle that can scout nearby targets. | „ |
— In-game description |
The Light Utility Vehicle (abbreviated to LUV) is a small car that is used for scouting and transport. It has a radio on-board, which gives map intelligence.
Description
The Light Utility Vehicle is a highly maneuverable agile vehicle commonly used to transport small amounts of equipment and personal. Its off-road speed is almost double that of the Transport Truck and is marginally better than the Motorcycle's standard off-road speed. It has low health.
A unique feature of the LUV is that it will automatically gather Map Intelligence on structures and vehicles within its radius while stationary, similar to a Radio Backpack. This makes it a useful reconnaissance vehicle.
The LUV is a shippable; it can be packaged and transported by a Flatbed Truck , Crane or Freighter.
Use
Its speed and transport abilities makes the LUV excellent for quickly relocating important ordnance and weaponry, while transporting key personnel. It is commonly seen as a resupply vehicle on both the front and back lines, for example transporting the critical supplies to a Forward Base under enemy assault.
It is commonly used as a raiding vehicle enabling attacks on enemy defenses and supply routes in back-line regions. Additionally, it is often used to quickly respond to enemy incursions.
Trivia
- The base colonial LUV model resembles a Willys Jeep with a closed top.
- Both LUVs currently have a horn which can be activated by pressing
LMB
. - A maximum of two LUVs can be transported by a single Barge.
- The Warden LUV is commonly referred to as a 'Scout Car'. The Colonial variation is often referred to as a 'Jeep'.
- LUVs are the second fastest vehicle currently in the game. The fastest being the Motorcycle.
Notes
The Colonial LUV is named "UV-05 "Collector" and the Warden LUV is named "Drummond 100a"
Variants
UV-05a "Argonaut" (Colonial)
“ | This stripped down Light Utility Vehicle provides extra seating for a small crew to engage in hit and run tactics. | „ |
— In-game description |
The Argonaut is an opentopped LUV where the passengers can shoot out of with secondary weapons. The firing arcs are limited due to the dimensions of the vehicle:
- The codriver cannot shoot directly forward, as it will hit the windscreen of the vehicle, damaging it.
- The rear passengers can fire up to 45 degrees backwards to either side (for a total of 270 degree fire angle). However, shooting forward might result in hitting the vehicle or the passenger in front of you.
- All passengers can hit the driver.
UV-24 "Icarus" (Colonial)
“ | This RPG-mounted Light Utility Vehicle provides a heavy-duty weapons platform with superior speed. Perfectly suited for assaulting enemy structures and vehicles, or supporting an armoured assault. | „ |
— In-game description |
The Icarus is a LUV equipped with the Bazooka, which can fire in a 30 degree angle (15 to both sides).
Notes:
- It can destroy itself by firing close range due to shrapnel from the RPG explosion.
- To ensure a hit while moving/turning, try aiming at a (partly) vertical surface, because otherwise the game may think you aim for something on top of the vehicle and you miss your target.
Drummond Spitfire 100d (Warden)
“ | This LMG-mounted Light Utility Vehicle provides a heavy-duty weapons platform with superior speed. Perfectly suited for supporting flanking infantry or an armoured assault. | „ |
— In-game description |
Notes:
- The combination of a high mobility vehicle with a moderately powerful machine gun makes this vehicle ideal for hit and run attacks on soft targets and for partisan attacks on logistics.
- It may also be used as a more mobile MG emplacement to help infantry hold an area.
- This vehicle has low health and armor. It is not advised to keep it in one place for a long time for fear of mortars or ATRs or to engage heavier armored vehicles.
