The Engineering Center allows players to contribute to the factons unique Tech Tree by researching and prototyping new items, structures, weapons and vehicles.
In-game description

The Engineering Center is a world structure used to progress a factions tech tree by production of prototyping kits.

Technology

There are 2 separate tech tree categories that each progress independantly from one another; vehicles and structures and weapons. Each tech tree category contains a series of research levels. Within each level, some technologies can be accessed through prototyping, whilst others are automatically unlocked when a release level is complete.

Research Levels

Multiple competing technologies within a level can be progressed simultaneously, however the technology that is researched first becomes widely accessible to the entire faction, this then locks that research level until the tech tree advances to the next tier. Prototyping technology at the lowest level is guaranteed to succeed whilst prototyping at a higher level gives an increasing chance to fail. (100% - 80% - 60% - 40%). The research levels and technology randomises each war for each faction. Not all levels are visible and will be marked 'unknown' progressing further down the tech tree will reveal these hidden levels.

Once enough prototype kits have been produced of a technology, it will be considered researched and become widely accessible, able to be produced in the normal factories without the need for a prototype kit.

Tiers

After every research level has been completed once, the tech tree categories will advance to the next tier, enabling higher tier researching of previously unresearched vehicles to be unlocked. Higher tier vehicles can have benefits such as increased durability, faster speed, more manueavability and are distinguished by their unique camo paint jobs.

One a higher tier technology is researched, it too becomes widely accessible and can be produced as the higher tier varient without need of a prototype kit.

Acquiring Prototyping Materials

Iron Alloy and Aluminum Alloy are used to produce prototype kits of vehicles and weapons respectively, they are gathered whilst scrapping at various resource fields (Salvage, Components, Sulfur). A node has a chance of spawning as a rare node after splitting. Each field will only ever spawn one time of material until cleared, if an aluminium node spawns, all future nodes will be aluminium. One can expect ~100 prototype materials per field cleared of salvage. This must then be taken to a refinery and refined into the alloys at a 1:1 ratio.

Producing Prototypes

Prototype kits can be taken either to the Mass Production Factory (MPF) or Factory and produced there, 1 prototype kit is equivalent to 1 crate of supplies or 1 vehicle. All vehicles must be produced at the MPF. This is worth taking into consideration early since MPF queue times can reach 10s of hours of waiting.

Trivia

  • The Engineering Center shares the same in-game model as the Technology Center (removed in Update 0.26).
  • Each logi hub has an Engineering Center.
  • The Engineering Center was formerly also used to prototype Relic Vehicles and weapons for one war only as a test of concept for what it is now.
