Armoured Cars are quick, well-rounded urban assault platforms. These anti-infantry vehicle are equipped with twin barrelled machineguns."

In-game description

The Armored Car is a small armored combat Vehicle most effective towards enemy infantry. It seats a crew of 2 (1 driver, 1 gunner); unlike the Half-track the gunner is enclosed within the vehicle and is not exposed and vulnerable. The vehicle has a 7.92mm Twin Barrel Machine Gun as its gun which has a 30 round magazine, a moderate reload time, and a 5 rounds/s fire rate. The inventory has a limit of 1 item which should be reserved for the ammo. Despite the machine gun’s capability of 360 degree rotation, the rotation speed is relatively slow and could result in the Armoured Car being flanked and destroyed easily. To prevent this, the vehicle’s movement could be used in conjunction with the turret rotation to ensure that targets will not be able to easily escape the turret’s firing arc.

Can be packaged and transported by a Flatbed Truck or an undeployed Crane.

Tactics

Due to the vehicle's mediocre speed off-road and slow turning turret, it is better to stay on roads so you can react faster if you're getting flanked. Another reason is that a single Anti-Tank Mine is a death sentence. Like the other offensive vehicles, it's strongly advised for the crew to wear gas masks and filters once Green Ash is unlocked. It's also better to not use the car at night due to the limited visibility.

On The Front Line

Against a fortified position, it's advised to use the AC backward (rear to the enemy and turret facing back) to allow a quicker retreat, because the vehicle is faster when moving forward and its armor identical on all sides. As the AC's gun has mediocre accuracy you'll be often forced to close in to be effective. This incentivizes a hit & run tactic (especially effective on bridge fights). However, the AC is much better suited to attack enemy infantry out in the open, rather than to push enemy defensive lines.

After RPGs are unlocked the AC becomes pretty much obsolete on the front line, because the RPG outranges the AC's inaccurate gun, kills it with only 2 RPG shells, and the vehicle lacks a spotter position to warn the crew in advance.

Against Partisans

The AC is excellent against small groups of enemies attacking your back lines on foot or with a LUV since they rarely have the heavy weapons, the numbers, or the defensive positions to kill an AC, especially early in the war. However it's not advised to fight even a Landing APC if one attacks your back lines due to its strong resistance to bullets and the high chance of it carrying heavy weaponry.

Historical Reference

The Colonial Xiphos Armoured Car appears to take heavy inspiration from the British Daimler Armoured Car.

Variants

O'Brien v.121 Highlander (Warden)

Fitted with all-terrain tread, the Highlander brings significant all-terrain mobility and performs especially well in snowy and mountainous environments.
In-game description

The Highlander is a Warden Armoured Car with tracks (and therefore technically not a car anymore). The tracks offer increased mobility over the regular AC. Even though tracks often suggest hard armour, the Highlander has the identical light armour to the regular one. As such, it is virtually immune to small arms fire when its armor is freshly new, but becomes more susceptible as its armor gets shredded. It takes 20% from Anti Tank rifle rounds, and a debilitating 80% from AT grenades and RPGs. The tracks and rear of the vehicle are not more vulnerable.

T12 "Actaeon" Tankette (Colonial)

This complete overhaul of the T3 Armoured Car is reinforced with tank armour. While these extra defenses lower the T12's overall speed and handling, the addition of treads provides increased performance in less than ideal terrain.
In-game description

The Actaeon boasts superior armor, durability, and firepower to the Highlander and standard armored cars, but its forward gun is only capable of roughly 120 degrees of traverse, and its open top can expose the crew to plunging fire from mortar shrapnel shells, frag grenades, and elevated infantry. Its lack of a fully traversable turret make the T12 not as well suited to partisan suppression as the Highlander or standard armored cars, but its improved gun, increased accuracy, and improved frontal armor makes it better suited for frontal attacks, building destruction, and infantry support. Do be warned, the improved armor doesn't grant it immunity to small anti-tank weapons like 13.5mm. It mainly serves to increase the tank's durability and resistance to said small anti-tank weapons. The Tankette's tracks is its weak point, taking 50% more damage.
